Our story
Warninks Advocaat is a firm favourite in the UK. A smooth velvety liqueur with a creamy texture, it can be enjoyed in many cocktails like a Snowball, as well as chilled neat or on the rocks. A firm favourite for everyone to enjoy. It wouldn’t be Christmas without Warninks Advocaat.
Who invented the drink?
Advocaat is a typical Dutch product. Records show that Advocaat is already mentioned in writings in the 17th century. It is generally assumed that the word ‘advocaat’ is a corruption of the Portuguese-Brazilian word ‘avocado’. The avocado is an indigenous Brazilian fruit and the Portuguese developed an alcoholic drink from the fruit pulp. This method was adopted by Dutch colonists, who, after returning to their native country began to produce ‘advocaat’ in their own characteristic Dutch way.
It originally was made from a mixture of eggs, sugar, vanilla and brandy. The most important ingredients still are Brandy, egg yolks (from chickens) and sugar.
